The Swedish manufacturer of industrial vehicles Volvo became the leader in tractor sales last year by achieving the highest sales quota in its history in our country and despite the fact that its trucks are not the cheapest on the market. The Scandinavian manufacturer achieved 17.7% of sales of trucks over 16 tons and 18.2% in tractors. The best-selling truck in Spain last year was also a Volvo: the FH500 4x2. Volvo sits at the top of the ranking for the second year in a row.
Brand estimates point to the tractor market (currently far above the rigid truck market in unit sales) is reaching its peak and that the aging of the current fleet of rigid trucks will cause an increase in sales of the latter. Even so, the CEO of Volvo Spain, Stéphane de Creisquer, maintains that the tractor market will continue to have greater weight and will be "66% of the market compared to 33% of the rigids". De Creisquer also believes that self-driving drivers will remain central to the growth of large transport companies because "they bring flexibility to large fleets."
Over the past year, Volvo registered 12,256 of the 2,413 tractor units arrived in Spain, which represents an increase in sales of 34% in relation to the 2013 figures. Total registration of some 17,500 new units of all brands: 15,000 units of more than 16 tons and 2,000 more units in the segment between 6 and 16 tons.
