Trucks that use the AP-7 highway will have discounts on the toll

Although the amount of the discounts that truck drivers will be able to benefit from has yet to be specified and is pending the meeting to be held by representatives of the Ministry of Public Works and the Generalitat de Catalunya, it is estimated that they could reach 50% of the current fee. The administration believes that reducing the cost of the toll by half could be a good incentive to free the N-340 from its heavy truck traffic, in a section where the AP-7 does not register much traffic. 

In principle, it is proposed that the reduction be applied to the section between the towns of Peñíscola (Castellón) and L'Hospitalet de L'Infant (Tarragona) and to the section between Vilaseca/Salou (Tarragona) and Vilafranca del Penedès Barcelona).

The measure of the ministry comes after the residents of the Terres de l'Ebre counties of Tarragona have staged various massive protest actions to reduce the circulation of lorries in a sector of the N-340, which this year already accumulates nine deaths in traffic accidents and which suffers an accident every two and a half days. The highway in this segment accumulates a daily traffic of about 23,000 vehicles.
