The German industrial and technological business group Siemens has just announced the imminent construction of the first section of electric motorway in Europe in the county of Gävleborg (Sweden), and that it will have a catenary to connect trucks with a hybrid engine. The experimental section will occupy two kilometers of the E16 motorway north of the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The first results of the test will be released in two years.
Siemens technicians argue that the electric highway system is "twice as efficient as the use of combustion engines. It not only reduces energy consumption in half but also reduces environmental pollution, with zero emissions". The core of the system is an intelligent pantograph, which can be engaged and released from the catenary at 90 kilometers per hour, connected to a hybrid drive motor. In the future, the instruments could also be adapted for truck engines powered by compressed natural gas or batteries.
The transport vehicles used in the pilot test are electric hybrid trucks manufactured by Scania and adapted by Siemens to operate with the catenary system. The German company is also going to launch a similar experiment in California (USA) using four hybrid trucks manufactured by Volvo through its subsidiary Mack Trucks. The test will be carried out on a 30-kilometer section of highway that connects the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
The future of road transport and also of the automotive parts and spare parts sector is in hybrid engines and in the use of alternative energies to current fuels. But the change from the current system of diesel engines to hybrid engines is expected to take a long time. For this reason, current diesel engines must be taken care of. And one of the best ways to do it is to use one of the new additions to the Recambiosdelcamion.comonline store and to Recambios España: the Dyno-Tab additive for diesel engines XL Trucks of the Dynamic brand, which reduces fuel consumption and smoke emissions. In addition, it cleans the carbon deposit and increases the power of the vehicle.
