News online from the DGT

Jan. 22, 2021

The DGT launches a website and with it we will be able to streamline some procedures, making them easier through the internet. In this article we summarize everything you can do on the new website of the General Directorate of Traffic. In addition, we are talking about the mobile application, which can also be very useful.

News online from the DGT
All documentation always at hand

Since March 2020 it is already possible to have your driving license and the documentation of your vehicle or vehicles on your mobile. To do this, you only have to install the miDGT app, in the Apple App Store or in Google Play for Android.

Vehicle documentation is only available for those registered after November 2016.

This system is fully valid and can replace paper documentation within Spanish territory, but not abroad. But beware, if you don't have coverage it doesn't work. So, just in case, and until they solve this from the DGT, do not remove the documentation from your glove box yet.

Another limitation that means that not everyone can use it is that, for its use, it requires you to be registered in the Cl@ve system, the electronic identification system for public administrations. If you still do not have it, we recommend that you process it since more and more procedures can be done comfortably from home thanks to this system. This Government website explains how to request registration in the Cl@ve system.

Procedures available on the new DGT website

On the new website of the General Directorate of Traffic you can carry out the following procedures:

Procedures related to vehicles
  • Headline changes.
  • Request a vehicle report. Very important to avoid surprises before buying a second-hand one.
  • Communicate the usual driver of a vehicle.
  • Remove a vehicle temporarily, and later, re-register it.
  • Deregister a vehicle permanently.
  • Request a duplicate of the documentation of a vehicle, which you own.
  • Change the fiscal domicile that appears in your DGT data.
Procedures related to the driver's license and points
  • Check your points balance.
  • Request a duplicate card due to theft or loss.
  • Enroll in a course to recover points
  • Ask for a points certificate, which certifies the points you have available
  • Change the address where notifications from the General Directorate of Traffic are sent.
Procedures related to sanctions
  • Pay traffic fines
  • Identify the driver, after receiving a speeding ticket taken by a radar
  • Submit claims and allegations against sanctions received
Other procedures
  • Pay fees
  • Request an appointment at a DGT office
  • Check the environmental label assigned to your vehicle
  • Ask for the environmental label
  • Check exam results

We hope that this information is useful to you and helps you to speed up your procedures with the DGT. Although some improvements remain, it is appreciated that it is becoming easier to carry out procedures with the Public Administration thanks to tools like these.
