Comparison of gas station prices in Spain

The rise in gas prices does not stop and any trick to save on fuel is welcome. To do this, today we bring you a very useful tool: Geoportal, the official page of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

It is a free tool, which is updated every five minutes and with a map of all of Spain where you can search for cheap gas stations, among others. The website details the prices per liter of fuel at each gas station and allows users to compare routes so that the driver can choose the cheapest one.

In Geoportal you will be able to obtain a lot of information in the search for gas stations, to refuel in any area of the country.

The Geoportal search engine has several filters that will be very useful:

• Search type: here you can select if you are looking for service stations or maritime refueling posts. Yes, it is also used to refuel ships.
• Province: Here you can limit your search to a specific province
• Town: Here you can limit your search to a specific population
• Type of fuel: Choose the type of fuel you are interested in. You will find the usual ones, gasoline 95, 98 and diesel, but also its variants (E10, Premium,...) and alternative fuels such as natural gas, bioethanol or hydrogen.
• Sale: here you can select if the gas station sells to the public or to cooperative members
• Type of service: You can also select if you want to find service stations where refueling is done by a worker or where there is self-service.
• Discount Plans Option: If you check this option you will be able to filter by discounts offered by certain gas station chains. You can also see gas stations with specific discounts for groups such as truck drivers, farmers or taxi drivers.

In addition to these “basic” options, the search engine allows you to specify a specific time, to ensure that you will not find the establishment closed. It is also possible to select by hours, even by address or postal code. And most importantly: cheaper service stations and discount plans.

The results of the searches in Geoportal are very useful to save fuel. The service stations are shown ordered by the price of a liter of fuel, from the lowest to the highest.

We have tested the tool with service stations throughout the province of Barcelona and the results are surprising.

Between the lowest and the highest price of diesel A, there is a difference of €0.60 per liter!!!.

Another of the benefits of Geoportal is being able to know in advance the cost that a specific route will entail, advising you on the route that consumes less gasoline. In this tool you will have to specify:

• The type of fuel you use in your vehicle
• The route you want to take, marking the origin and the destination
• You can also specify other non-mandatory information such as the time you expect to leave and whether or not you want to pay tolls.

With all this information Geoportal will calculate the cheapest route for that specific route.
