The DGT (General Directorate of Traffic) is revolutionizing the way vehicle documents are managed with an innovative solution based on QR codes! This new measure will allow users to submit their vehicle documentation digitally, streamlining procedures and avoiding the need to carry physical papers.
The most significant change applies to rental cars, which from now on will display a QR code instead of the traditional printed documents. This QR code, called DNI-Car, will make it easier for Traffic agents to quickly and efficiently verify all the vehicle data.
This system not only implies a technological advance, but also has important benefits in terms of security. The implementation of QR codes in rental cars is expected to contribute to a significant reduction in theft of between 6,000 and 12,000 vehicles per year. In addition, eliminating the need to carry physical documents will reduce the possibility of misplacement or loss of documentation.
The agreement between the National Federation of Vehicles with and without Driver (Feneval) and the DGT represents a notable bureaucratic simplification in the car rental sector. Through this fully digitized process, cumbersome procedures are eliminated and full legal effects are provided to the procedures carried out before the Traffic authorities.
Juan Luis Barahona, president of Feneval, has highlighted that users of rental vehicles will no longer have to worry about carrying the original documentation in paper format, which often generated inconveniences and risks. In addition, paper documentation also made it easier for stolen rental vehicles to keep the vehicle documents with them.
For his part, Pere Navarro, General Director of Traffic, has stressed the importance of being able to carry vehicle documentation in digital format through the miDGT application, and has considered it necessary to extend it to transport companies car rental.
Now, let's see in detail how this new DGT QR code works. FENEVAL will collaborate with companies in the sector to carry out the secure and transparent digitization of documentation through the blockchain. This digitization process will be available exclusively through the Federation and will require compliance with specific technical requirements.
Once the documentation is securely digitized, a QR code valid only during the rental period will be generated. This QR code will be printed and attached to the vehicle rental contract, which will be given to the client when they pick it up. By scanning the QR code with their mobile phones, users will be able to access an HTML page that will display links to view the vehicle documentation digitally.
This information may be shown to traffic agents, police authorities and the authorities of other countries, such as France and Portugal, in real time. The QR code will contain essential information, such as the vehicle's registration certificate, the technical sheet, the condition of the vehicle (indicating if there is any report of theft) and a security seal.
The security seal guarantees that the data is safely housed on the blockchain, which provides additional guarantees in terms of integrity and protection. This means that digital vehicle documents are reliable and cannot be easily tampered with, helping to strengthen security and confidence in the system.
With this new system based on QR codes, the DGT and FENEVAL are paving the way towards a more efficient and secure future in the car rental sector. By eliminating the need to carry physical documents, procedures are streamlined and the risk of loss or misplacement of documentation is reduced. In addition, by using advanced technologies such as the blockchain, security is strengthened and data manipulation is avoided.
The implementation of this digital solution is a clear example of how technology can improve daily life and simplify administrative processes. Now, rental car users can enjoy a more comfortable and worry-free experience knowing that their documentation is protected and accessible at all times through a simple QR code scan.
