The TomTom report highlights that almost half of road transport professionals -40%- (especially courier and vans) drive faster than advisable and less safely to reach the destination of their freight while another 17% state that they spend less time than they should on each service. However, 97% of those surveyed maintain that "always or almost always" they fulfill all their work obligations but at the cost of sacrificing their free time (leaving work later or eating quickly), which has a negative impact on their your family life. The figures underline that there are truck drivers who hardly spend 15 minutes eating.
The authors of the report conclude that professional drivers "are subject to significant stress in their work that can lead them to commit imprudence in the road" and that in some cases it is the fault of poor planning by the agencies they work for and that they do not take into account variables such as traffic. The study recommends the use of technologies to relieve drivers of the burden, optimize schedules and assign tasks in a more intelligent and respectful way.
